Review of THE BRIDEGROOM WORE PLAID

THE BRIDEGROOM WORE PLAID may be purchase here.

THE BRIDEGROOM WORE PLAID
Grace Burrowes

Ian MacGregor, Earl of Balfour, has many responsibilities, since his brother disappeared seven years ago.  In an effort to make ends meet, Ian has opened his main residence to rich English people, who hope to catch sight of the Queen and her consort.  Unfortunately, this is just a brief stop-gap method, and Ian realizes that he must marry a rich English heiress, for the good of his people.  Ian's choice is Miss Eugeni Daniels, who arrives with her sister, father, widowed cousin, and spinster cousin, Augusta Merrisck.  Ian is surprised at his attraction to Augusta but must resist it, because of his family's poor financial situation.

THE BRIDEGROOM WORE PLAID is a very enjoyable Victorian romance with engaging characters.  Ian is a great hero, who is torn between his responsibilities and his heart, but is willing to risk his heart for the well-being of his family and people.  Augusta, who has led a lonely existence, knows that she can't have Ian, because of her status as a poor relation.  Augusta decides to steal what happiness she can with Ian, before she must return to her lonely existence.  The interactions and loyality of Ian's family are loving and realistic, and I loved his boisterous family.  There are three other charming romances contained within this book, which in no way deter from the main romance.  I found only one small problem with THE BRIDEGROOM WORE PLAID, and that is the trusting manner Augusta has toward her uncle.  It appears that she knows he is a despicable character, but, still, trusted him to handle her affairs.  However, since Augusta had just lost her parents, I suppose her lapse in judgement may be forgiven.  Other than this minor annoyance, I greatly enjoyed THE BRIDEGROOM WORE PLAID, and I highly recommend it.

Review of Deliver Me from Temptation

DELIVER ME FROM TEMPTATION may be purchased here.

DELIVER ME FROM TEMPTATION
Tess Hilaire

Logan Calhoun, a Paladin angel warrior, first meets Detective Jessica Waters while chasing a succubus with two other Paladin warriors.   When Jessica interferes thinking the succubus is a helpless victim, Logan is forced to wipe her memory of the incident.  Logan hopes to never see the attractive detective again, because Jessica is likely to regain her memory, if she sees him.  However, fate has other plans for Logan and Jessica, when Logan has to go to Jessica's precinct the next day, and they meet again.  These two are greatly attracted to each other, but a long-lived Paladin and a human seems to be a tragic romance, especially with Lucifer and his evil henchman in the picture.

DELIVER ME FROM TEMPTATION is an entertaining, paranormal romance with spectacular world-building and multi-faceted characters.  Ms. Hilaire creates a vibrant world, which jumps off the pages and transports the reader to a world, in which good and evil collide.  Jessica is a rather tortured heroine.  Since the death of her sister, Jessica has made it her mission to put scum away and find justice for their victims.  Unfortunately,  her quest has become something of an obsession and her thirst for justice skirts the edge of a quest for vengeance.  Logan is a great hero, who has many responsibilities and issues with his father, the leader of the Paladin council.  As heir apparent to his father and the last of the new generations pure bloods, Logan must make tough decisions and overcome his father's prejudices against non-pure bloods.  Logan and Jessica's love seems destined for failure, but a strong hero and heroine will fight for their love and a happily-ever-after.  The only small quibble, that I have with this book, is that the ending seems a little abrupt.  Other than this, I thoroughly enjoyed DELIVER ME FROM TEMPTATION, and I'm on pins and needles waiting for the next book in the series.

Review of Wolfishly Yours

WOLFISHLY YOURS may be purchases here.

WOLFISHLY YOURS
Lydia Dare

Miss Lavinia Mayeux  isn't happy to be sent to England by her father, because of her wild ways.  Lavinia's father hopes, that her grandfather, Lord Holmesfield, can teach her to be a lady and get her a good matrimonial match.  Lord Holmesfield asks for Lady Radbourne's help in turning Lavinia into a lady in the eyes of the ton.  Meanwhile, Lady Radbourne's sons, Grayson and Archer,  are forced by their pack alpha and half-brother, Lord Eynsford, to take ettiquette lessons from Lady Radbourne's companion, Lady Sophia Cole.  It is decided, that Lady Sophia will help Lavinia, as well, and she enlists the aid of Grayson and Archer in teaching Lavinia to dance.  The attraction between Grayson and Lavinia is instantaneous, but Grayson knows that a match between Lavinia and someone with his prospects and reputation will never be allowed.

WOLFISHLY YOURS is a great shifter romance with endearing characters and a delightful plot.  Lavinia makes a great heroine, used to dealing with her Lycan family, she is strong and a little rough around the edges.  Lavinia tries her best to fit in but somehow, usually with the help of Grayson, makes great social gaffes.  Grayson is a wonderful hero, who is a little unsure of himself, as far as Lavinia is concerned.  Lavinia's arrival really knocks Grayson for a loop, and it is great watching him become tongue-tied around her.  The interactions between the Lycans are hilarious and, as someone with rambunctious brothers, quite true to form.

All in all, WOLFISHLY YOURS is an entertaining read with many humorous moments, and I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Review of Untamed

UNTAMED may be purchased here.

UNTAMED
Sara Humphreys

Layla Nickelson, half human and half Amoveo, returns to her foster home, while running from the dreams, in which her mate comes to her.  William Fleury, a full blood Amoveo, has found his mate and is willing to do anything necessary to protect her and convince her of his love.  During all this emotional turmoil, these two must face the attack on Layla's foster mother and the threat of purists from the Amoveo clans.

UNTAMED is a good paranormal read with multi-faceted characters and an intense, exciting plot.  William is a great hero, who has many Darcy-like qualities, in that he is uptight and aloof on the surface, but has a deep, passionate nature hidden underneath.  Layla is William's opposite in many ways, in that she is spontaneous and a little hot-headed.  Layla is something of a tortured soul, because of the many foster homes, that she was forced to endure as a child.  Layla, also, considers herself a freak, because she doesn't seem to fit in either world, the human or the Amoveo.  It is understandable, that Layla would be reticent to fall into William's arms, because of her fears and her past.  It is great to see these two work through their problems, in order to be together.  There is just one thing in UNTAMED that bothered me a little, and that is the fact that the Amoveo use a word from their ancient language to trigger their special powers.  It seems strange, that they use the same word for everything.  I would think, that they should use a different word for every task.  Other than this one small quibble, I enjoyed UNTAMED and hope to read the next book in this series.

Review How to Tame a Willfull Wife

HOW TO TAME A WILLFUL WIFE may be purchase here.

HOW TO TAME A WILLFUL WIFE
Christy English

Anthony Carrington, the Earl of Ravensbrook, agrees to marry his fellow soldier's daughter, in order to save the soldier from financial ruin.  Anthony expects to get a biddable bride, but, instead, gets Caroline Montague, who sometimes dresses in breeches, rides astride, and learns how to knife fight.  Anthony is sure, that he can bring his wife to heel, especially, where his most hated enemy, Lord Carlyle, is concerned.

HOW TO TAME A WILLFUL WIFE is a regency romance, which uses the theme found in Shakespeare's THE TAMING OF THE SHREW.  Sometimes there is a thin line between alpha hero and jerk, and, unfortunately, Anthony seems to cross that line several times.  When viewed through the lenses of his time, Anthony's attitude and actions are perfectly reasonable.  However, my modern sensibilities disliked his behavior, and I couldn't quite warm to him.  Toward the end, Anthony did come around and his treatment of Caroline is much more of a partnership.  Unfortunately, for me, it is too late, and needless to say, Anthony isn't one of my favorite heroes.  Caroline, on the other hand, handles things much better than I expected.  While she is a little too impulsive, at times, Caroline does a great job with the little information, that Anthony gives her.  The book does have some humorous moments, and I chuckled a few times.

All in all, while I didn't care much for the hero of HOW TO TAME A WILLFUL WIFE, I did enjoy many parts of the book, and the ending is very sweet.

Review of Enslaved

ENSLAVED may be purchased here.

ENSLAVED
Elisabeth Naughton

Gryphon, one of the Eternal Guardians, has changed since his stay and torture in the Underworld, and his fellow Guardians are leery of him.  Gryphon knows, that he must stop Atlanta, who calls to him incessantly and is responsible for his torture.  In order to do this, Gryphon decides to escape but takes a hostage, Maelea, who is, also, trying to escape the colony.  Unknown to Gryphon,  Maelea is the child of Persephone and Zeus, and, therefore, despised by Hades.  Unfortunately for Gryphon, he now has to deal with many Underworld creatures chasing them, as well as, his fellow Guardians.

I love books, that deal with Greek mythology and ENSLAVED doesn't disappoint.  ENSLAVED has an exciting plot, great, tortured characters, and complex world-building.  Gryphon is a very tortured hero, who feels guilty for the things, that happened to him in the Underworld, and to top this off, he can't get rid of the voice in his head.  When he is with Maelea, the voice is bearable, and he, at first keeps her with him, because of this.  However, Gryphon soon grows to admire and love Maelea and wants to protect her.  Because of her heritage and the fact, that Hades is always after her, Maelea has learned not to get involved with others, and as a result is very lonely.  Then, Gryphon comes along, and he speaks to her soul.

It is great to watch these two tortured souls fall for each other, and I'm really looking forward to the next book with Titus and the mysterious redhead.

Review of Lady Louisa's Christmas Knight

LADY LOUISA'S CHRISTMAS KNIGHT may be purchase here.

LADY LOUISA'S CHRISTMAS KNIGHT
Grace Burrowes

Lady Louisa Windham is tired of the seemingly never-ending hunt for a husband, and hopes that maybe this year she can step aside and let her sisters take center stage.  It is during a fox hunt, that  Louisa saves Sir Joseph Carrington from being ambushed by several marriage minded females.  While Joseph has come to the festivities, because he is in need of a wife, he is, nevertheless, happy to be saved from these particular females.  Later, Sir Joseph steps in, when Louisa is in danger of being ruined.

LADY LOUISA'S CHRISTMAS KNIGHT is a very enjoyable regency romance with complex characters and an enchanting love story.  Let me state upfront, that I love Sir Joseph.  Who wouldn't love someone, who confides and reads poetry to his pet pig, Lady Ophelia?  Added to this is the fact, that he is a loving father, who allows his children to climb all over him.  Sir Joseph is plain-spoken, honorable, and doesn't really stand out among the ton.  Lady Louisa Windham is an unusual heroine, in that she is brilliant, probably a genius, but, also, socially awkward, at times.  Louisa doesn't seek to marry, because of a secret from her past, but she can't deny her attraction to Sir Joseph.  Sticklers for historical accuracy might be a little put out on a couple of occasions, as an example, pajamas are mentioned.  However, this doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the book, and I only found a couple of inaccuracies.

It was great watching these two introverts fall for each other, and I can't wait for the next book in the series, because I have grown to love the Windham family.

Review of SAVAGE HUNGER

SAVAGE HUNGER may be purchased here.

SAVAGE HUNGER
Terry Spear

Kathleen McKnight is working undercover with her army unit, when she is captured by a vicious drug lord.   Luckily, Connor Anderson, a jaguar shifter, hears her and comes to her rescue, saving her life.  Connor disappears, when more army personnel arrive, and Kathleen is left to wonder what happened to him.  After a year, Kathleen goes back to the jungle, where she was held captive, only to have Connor and his sister, Mia, save her.

SAVAGE HUNGER is an enjoyable shifter romance with great characters and an exciting storyline.  Kathleen has been through a great trauma and is struggling to come to terms with her fears.  I liked the fact that Kathleen is strong and intelligent and able to take care of herself in most situations.  Connor and Mia are the only jaguar shifters, that they know of.  Because of this fact, Connor and Maya only have each other and are lonely and craving mates.  Connor doesn't wish to turn a human and sentence her to a lonely existence of hiding their true nature.  Connor is everything, that is expected in a hero, and is willing to sacrifice for those he loves.  Luckily, Maya is very impulsive and takes the decision out of his hands.  While Maya's  intentions are good, her actions could have been very detrimental for Kathleen.  The only minor quibble, that I have with this book, is the lack of consequences Kathleen faces as a result of her actions.

All in all, SAVAGE HUNGER is a good read, and I look forward to reading Maya's book.

Review of A LADY AND HER MAGIC

A LADY AND HER MAGIC may be purchased here.

A LADY AND HER MAGIC
Tammy Falkner

Ashley Trimble, the Duke of Robinsworth, is almost a pariah in society.  It is rumored that Ashley murdered his wife, after she died under suspicious circumstances, leaving their daughter motherless.
Sophia Thorne has been sent by the Fae to help Ashley's daughter,Anne, but she hopes to help Ashley, too.

It is seldom, that this reader comes across a book, which puts a smile on my face in just a few paragraphs, but A LADY AND HER MAGIC is such a book.  It is an even rarer occurrence, when the smile lasts the entire book, but this book provided me with this lucky happenstance.  Part regency romance and part paranormal, my two favorite genres, A LADY AND HER MAGIC is filled with humorous scenes and quirky characters.  Ashley blames himself for his wife's death and has become something of a recluse, there is a real sadness about him.  Anne has learned to act out and has become a terror, who goes through governesses almost  weekly.  Sophia, who is lovely and vibrant, soon has Anne and Ashley charmed.  The secondary characters make a great addition to the story and add to the amusement in the book.  Even though, there are plenty of humorous scenes, there are, also some serious and emotional scenes.

A LADY AND HER MAGIC is a charming romance, which just hits the spot for this reader.

Review of WHERE THERE'S A WILL

WHERE THERE'S A WILL may be purchased here.

WHERE THERE'S A WILL
Karen Kelley

Haley Tillman is tired of being stood up and dateless, and she prays for a miracle.  Ryder, a nephilim, arrives in answer to her prayers.  Unfortunately, Ryder can't stay long, but he hopes to make Haley realize, that she is a beautiful, desirable woman.

At first, it seems that WHERE THERE'S A WILL is just going to be one sizzling sex scene after another, but later, there is more interaction between the main characters and others, which gives an interesting perspective into Haley and Ryder's psyche.  At times, I wanted to shake Haley, because she is so down on herself.  Although I can understand Haley's low self-esteem, because of the way her family and friends unknowingly, hurtfully treats her, it seems to take a really long time for her to realize her self-worth.  However, when Haley finally turns over a new leaf, she really does shine.  Ryder sees that Haley is a beautiful woman, inside and out, and feels he must help her see this.  Unfortunately, before long, Ryder is in over his head, and it is forbidden for a nephilim and human to be together.  The ending of WHERE THERE'S A WILL is a little unexpected, and there are several humorous scenes.

WHERE THERE'S A WILL is an enjoyable read, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

The Crazy Dream Blog: September Madness Giveaway! (INT)

The Crazy Dream Blog: September Madness Giveaway! (INT): Yay! It's September, the beginning of Autumn, my favorite season of the year. But poor Autumn. It doesn't get too much attention, does it...
