Review of Prince of Power

PRINCE OF POWER may be purchased here.

PRINCE OF POWER
Elisabeth Staab

In a world where wizards and vampires are mortal enemies, Anton, son of the wizard leader, doesn't quite fit in.  When Anton is given the assignment to kidnap, absorb the powers, and kill the vampire king's sister, Tyra, he can't bring himself to do the dastardly dead.  Instead, Anton saves Tyra and watches over her until she is safe.  Now, Anton and Tyra are in great danger from the wizards, and the vampires aren't going to accept a wizard in their midst meekly, and to top all of this, Tyra's father kept a devestating secret from her.

With awesome world-building, great conflict, and multi-faceted characters, PRINCE OF POWER makes for a very entertaining paranormal read.  Ms. Staab creates a world, in which, vampires and wizards live amongst ordinary humans and the wizards viciously torture and kill the vampires to absorb their powers.  Anton isn't the ordinary alpha hero. Even though he is forced to do some despicable things to survive, Anton is a sensitive, caring soul.   That Anton has survived the tortures and training of his truly evil father, speaks to his strength of character.  Anton knows that there are many obstacles in his way and is willing to sacrifice himself, if it means saving his love, Tyra.  Tyra is a strong, powerful, headstrong, vampire, who sometimes doesn't look before she leaps.  Tyra is conflicted by her growing feelings for Anton.  How can she trust a member of the hated wizard race?  There are some interesting secondary characters in this book, and I'm hoping for Lee's story, soon.

PRINCE OF POWER kept me enthralled from the very beginning, and I can't wait for the next book in the series.  This book is highly recommended for the paranormal lover.

Review of For the Love of a Goblin Warrior

FOR THE LOVE OF A GOBLIN WARRIOR  may be purchased here.

FOR THE LOVE OF A GOBLIN WARRIOR
Shona Husk

Meryn, his king, and several other warriors are cursed to the Shadowlands by a Druid, who is against their plans for revolt against the Romans.  All the cursed men are forced to watch the massacre of their tribe, and Meryn watches his wife and children murdered and is unable to help them.   Because of this, Meryn gives into the urge to become a goblin, and for centuries all he seeks to do is steal and collect gold.  After almost two thousand years, Meryn is pulled out of the Shadowlands by another formerly cursed fellow, his cousin, Dai.  Once in the Fixed Realm, a confused Meryn, runs away from his cousin's house and is picked up by the police for brandishing a sword.  After being taken to the emergency room by the police, Meryn meets a sympathetic nurse, Nadine, and is drawn to her.

FOR LOVE OF A GOBLIN WARRIOR is a paranormal romance focusing on two very tortured characters.  Meryn is tortured by survivor's guilt over the deaths of his family and tribe.  Whereas, Nadine is tortured by the death of her mother, for which her father has spent twenty years in prison.  At the age of five, Nadine witnessed the attack on her mother, and traumatised by what she saw, Nadine has blocked the memories of that night.  Nadine doesn't allow men to get close to her for fear of getting hurt, but she is drawn to Meryn.  I felt no real connection to Nadine, because she just seemed to put obstacles in her own path to happiness.  While I understand that there are people like this, I find them a little annoying.  Meryn, on the other hand, once he overcomes some of his guilt, is one determined man.  Meryn, seeks to find happiness in his new life with the woman, that he has come to love, and he will do whatever it takes.

Review of Searching for Captain Wentworth

SEARCHING FOR CAPTAIN WENTWORTH may be purchased here.

SEARCHING FOR CAPTAIN WENTWORTH
Jane Odiwe

Sophie Elliot gets the key to a townhouse in Bath, which has been in her family for years and is next to Jane Austen's house, in hopes of working on her writing.  Once there, Sophie is transported back in time and sees through the eyes of her ancestor, Sophia Elliot.  Sophie travels back and forth in time with the aid of an old glove and meets Jane Austen, Jane's sister, and Jane's brother, Charles, who is in the Navy.  Meanwhile, in the present, Sophie meets her attractive neighbor, Josh Strafford.

Ms. Odiwe pays homage to Austen's PERSUASION in this unique novel, which transports the reader back to the Regency period.  Since PERSUASION is my second favorite Austen novel and I enjoy a good time travel read,  I quite enjoyed this book.  Although I would have liked more of an explanation about the time travel aspect of the novel, this book is historically accurate and the romance is delightful.

All in all, SEARCHING FOR CAPTAIN WENTWORTH is a lovely romance, that most Austen fans will enjoy.

NOTE:  I was given this book, in return for an unbiased review.

Review of Waltz with a Stranger

WALTZ WITH A STRANGER may be purchased here.

WALTZ WITH A STRANGER
Pamela Sherwood

Miss Amelia Newbold, an American heiress, has traveled to England with her mother and twin sister, Aurelia, hoping to land a titled husband.  Aurelia, who was left scarred and lame after a riding accident, keeps to the outskirts of parties, in hopes of getting away from the pitying looks.  Until one night a handsome stranger sees past the scar and asks her to waltz in the garden, where she has taken refuge.  Then, Aurelia decides to take charge of her life and gets help and rehabilitation in Paris.  Meanwhile, the handsome stranger, James Trelawney, unexpectedly comes into a title, which brings with it stifling debts.  James has little option but to marry a heiress, and Amelia seems the best candidate.  James and Amelia become engaged, but unfortunately, Aurelia still thinks about the handsome stranger.

WALTZ WITH A STRANGER has a theme, which is one of my hot button subjects.  I try to avoid stories, in which one sibling loves the significant other of their sibling.  Fortunately the relationship between James and Amelia is one of convenience, and I can overlook this easier than I could, if they were engaged for love.  Besides the romance between James and Aurelia, there is an interesting secondary romance between Amelia and James' friend.  In fact, I enjoyed the secondary romance more than the primary one.  There just seemed to be more life in it.

All in all, WALTZ WITH A STRANGER  provided some entertaining moments, even if, I found portions of it slightly annoying.
